Jesy Nelson Breaks Down Over Twins' Medical Care: 'I Feel Like I'm Hurting Them'
Jesy Nelson Tears Up Over Twins' Feeding Tubes

Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has emotionally detailed the heart-wrenching realities of parenting her twin daughters, who were diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), leaving her in tears during a particularly difficult medical moment.

The Emotional Struggle of Medical Procedures

During a candid appearance on Heart Breakfast with hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden, the 34-year-old star revealed how a doctor's blunt instruction brought her to tears. "I remember when they were showing me how to put a feeding tube down their nose into her chest for secretions," Jesy explained, her voice trembling with emotion. "And I remember crying going 'I don't want to do this' because she was crying and I'm like, I feel like I'm hurting her."

'You Don't Have a Choice'

The medical professional's response was direct yet necessary: "She's like 'listen, I know this is horrible but you don't have a choice you've got to do it because no one else is going to do this' and you just have to suck it up and get on with it." Jesy acknowledged this harsh reality, adding, "I know that's part of being a mum but you just never expect that you're going to do this on your child."

For the singer-turned-advocate, the medical aspects of her daughters' care present the greatest challenge. "For me, it's everything, but for me the thing that I struggle the most with is the medical stuff on them," she confessed. "It's everyday."

Campaigning for Newborn Screening Changes

Jesy is now channeling her personal experience into advocacy, campaigning to add SMA to the Newborn Screening Test following her twins' devastating diagnosis. Her daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, were born in May 2025, and their condition has reshaped every aspect of the star's life.

Single Motherhood and Protective Parenting

Opening up about her everyday life as a single mother, Jesy described how her twins' vulnerability requires constant vigilance. She admitted she must be extremely careful about where she takes them, limiting outings to protect their fragile health. Despite these challenges, she remains optimistic about their progress. "They'll get even stronger, they're doing really well," she said with maternal pride.

Putting Music Career on Hold

When questioned about her musical future, Jesy was unequivocal about her priorities. "Look listen I'd never say never to music, but for me, my girls are my main focus," she stated firmly. "I'll be honest with you, I've not got time, I really don't. They are my whole heart and soul and my main focus, and I want to continue advocating for them and getting this heel prick test changed and getting them strong, that's my main focus."

She emphasized the critical importance of her advocacy work, noting, "Because that's going to determine their future. That's my main focus right now."

Documentary Chronicles Her Journey

Jesy allowed cameras to document her life during her pregnancy with the twins, resulting in the six-part series "Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix." The documentary chronicles her emotional experience navigating pregnancy complications and now, the realities of parenting children with SMA.

The documentary premieres on Prime Video this Friday, February 13, with all episodes being released simultaneously for binge-watching. This intimate look into Jesy's life promises to shed further light on the challenges faced by parents of children with serious medical conditions.
