Jane McDonald has spoken candidly about the daily grief she still feels following the death of her fiancé Eddie Rothe in 2017. The singer and TV presenter, 63, admitted there is 'not a day' she does not think of him, describing the experience as 'awful'.
Speaking to Heat magazine, McDonald said: 'There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t think of Eddie – it’s awful. I’m not going to butter it up in any way. Grief stays with you, but what you have to do is sit it beside joy.'
The former Loose Women panellist became Eddie's full-time carer after he was diagnosed with lung cancer. The couple had rekindled their teenage romance in 2008 after a chance encounter on This Morning, and announced their engagement the same year.
Despite planning to retire, McDonald recently achieved a top 10 album with 'Living The Dream' and continues to appear on television. She described her ongoing success as a 'gift from Eddie' and said she feels 'blessed' to have had time with him.
McDonald also revealed she was diagnosed with PTSD after Eddie's death. She told The Guardian: 'If I could bring back Ed, I would give everything up and have him back. My life has just gone: boom! That is a gift from him.'
She returns to Channel 5 tonight in 'Jane McDonald in Nashville', exploring Tennessee and offering a behind-the-scenes look at her album.
