Coronation Street actor Jack P Shepherd has left his co-stars shocked after revealing the outcome of his most recent surgery. On the latest instalment of On The Sofa, the podcast he presents alongside Colson Smith and Ben Price, the three began by tackling "the elephant in the room" after Jack turned up at the studio sporting a hat.
Jack's Third Hair Transplant
Following speculation from his co-hosts about what he could be hiding, the David Platt actor disclosed that he had undergone his third hair transplant. "This is the hat-trick, this is the third," he revealed. The 38-year-old explained that he chose a third procedure because "baldness still progresses as time goes on".
"This is my third one. So most people are thinking, I thought you'd just get one hair transplant and then it's Elvis. But that's not the case apparently, because baldness still progresses as time goes on," he shared. "I had one in 2018, 2019 and now, now. So I've had it all done mainly at the front and in sections," he continued, before proceeding to unveil his newly shaved head.
Co-Stars React to New Look
Upon removing his hat and seeing his colleagues' faces, the actor remarked: "That's a shock ain't it, that's short." Colson said: "I think it's a look, you know. I actually quite like it," before he and Ben erupted into laughter. Ben remarked: "I actually don't think you look that bad," to which Colson responded: "Bald and beard's a look." When his co-stars observed that he seemed to have some swelling, Jack responded with surprise: "Has it swelled? I thought it was just exactly the same and just a bit red. I need a picture now."
Why He Shaved His Head
Jack continued to reveal that, despite undergoing three hair transplants, this marked the first occasion he had shaved his head for the treatment. "I didn't know this but you get a lot more hair follicles if you shave the head. If you're having to go in between hairs, it's more difficult. So, the two times before, I only had 1500 hairs put in, so 3000, this one is 4000," he shared.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Jack had previously spoken about his motivations for having a hair transplant. "I know some people will say that I am being incredibly vain having a second hair transplant so quickly after the first one," he shared. "All I can say to that was that I needed to do it for my long-term mental well-being. I have been in Corrie for 20 years now - ever since I was 12. I know I have been incredibly lucky and love working with such a fantastic group of actors but the relentless schedules take their toll on your mental health, particularly when you have been through as much trauma as David Platt."
