Ian Wright has offered a glimpse into the England World Cup camp, revealing how Thomas Tuchel fosters unity and camaraderie behind the scenes. Speaking after England's 4-2 victory over Croatia, Wright praised the German manager's approach during the team's warm-up camp.
Tuchel's Tactile Management Style
Wright observed Tuchel interacting with players in a warm and personal manner. "When you see Thomas Tuchel going into different groups and talking to them, it's not like people are uncomfortable with him. Everything was quite tactile and quite nice," Wright told ITV. He noted that Tuchel's affection extends to captain Harry Kane, describing how the manager "loves people."
Building Unity in Limited Time
Wright believes Tuchel is maximizing the brief international windows to instill a sense of togetherness. "I think because he's been the club manager and not the international manager and doesn't get them as often, he's trying to impart as much love and joy that he can simply because he doesn't get them long enough," Wright explained.
England's Comeback Victory
England secured a 4-2 win over Croatia, with Harry Kane scoring a first-half double before Martin Baturina and Petar Musa equalized. Second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford sealed the victory. Assistant coach Anthony Barry described the opening 45 minutes as "complicated and confusing."
Tuchel's Half-Time Impact
Skipper Kane credited Tuchel's half-time team talk for the team's improved performance. Tuchel praised his players' response, stating, "I think the reaction was excellent, the effort was enormous. We learn a lot from these moments. We are exhausted but don't get me wrong, I loved exhausted players in the dressing room."
Group L Standings
England top Group L after the win and will face Ghana on Tuesday evening in Boston. Ghana defeated Panama 1-0 in their opening match.
