Home and Away star Lynne McGranger reveals on-set bullying rage

Lynne McGranger has disclosed that she once erupted in a very public fury at a colleague on the set of Home and Away. The veteran soap star, aged 73, experienced repeated conflicts with the unnamed individual while filming the Channel Seven show, eventually reaching a breaking point.

A Moment of Red Mist

"There was a time where I felt bullied, doesn't matter how old you are," McGranger shared on the Cracking On podcast this week. "One day it just got… because I'm a bit of a red mist person… I'll put up with that stuff, put up with stuff and then I just lose it."

She detailed how the outburst occurred in front of extras and other cast members. "Of course we're in a situation where almost the whole cast was there, and extras, because why do something in private?" she remarked.

The Confrontation

"I just remember saying to this person: 'Are you always an a**hole or is it just towards me?' and this person said, 'Oh it's just towards you' and I went: 'I thought so'," McGranger recounted. The confrontation had the desired effect, as the culprit left her alone thereafter. "You know what? Never again. Never again!" she declared.

Daily Mail has reached out to Channel Seven for comment.

End of an Era

McGranger closed a chapter on her illustrious soap opera career last year, finishing up at Seven's long-running serial after over 30 years in the cast. She filmed her final scenes for Home and Away, with the series sharing moving moments from her last day on set.

"I've had the ride of my life. And I love each and every one of you so much: The cast – Ray, Georgie, Emily, Shane, Ada, James, all the youngins," she said in a statement. "The art department, the writers, everybody – there's so many unsung heroes. This show is made up of so many parts. You're all amazing, and it's been my great privilege to work with each and every one of you. I'm touched, I'm humbled and I'm so honoured. Thank you so much."

Lynne had been a Home and Away fan favourite for three decades, playing the character of 'Aussie battler' Irene Roberts. She announced her departure last year, stating: "After almost 33 years in my dream role and working everyday with people who I love, respect and whom I now consider family, it's bittersweet to be closing the chapter on what has been the best and longest gig of my life." She added, "I am forever grateful to the best production crew in the world and to our genius writers – whose doors are always open – for everything they have done for Irene over the past 33-odd years. And I am so proud of the storyline which will see Irene out of the Bay. Above all, a massive, heartfelt thank you to the fans for your continued love and support."

The iconic actress won the coveted Gold Logie at last year's ceremony for her performance as Irene.
