Steam Machine Release Date, Price, Pre-Orders: How to Secure a Unit at Launch
Steam Machine Release: Price, Pre-Orders, and How to Get One

Valve has finally announced pricing, pre-order details, and the release date for the long-awaited Steam Machine. The device, which combines the versatility of a PC with the accessibility of a console, will launch on June 29, but only for those who secure a spot through a randomized reservation queue.

How to Secure a Steam Machine at Launch

Pre-orders are not yet open, but interested customers must sign up to join the queue before 6pm BST on June 25. After that deadline, Valve will close sign-ups and perform a one-time randomization to determine the reservation and waitlist order. Successful applicants will be added to the reservation queue and receive an email to complete their purchase once a unit becomes available. Those who do not make the cut will be placed on a waitlist and contacted if more units become available.

According to Valve, customers can enter the draw for different variants if they are not particular about which model they get, but only one Steam Machine per household can be ordered.

Steam Machine Price and Bundles

The Steam Machine will be available in several editions based on storage capacity and whether an official Steam Controller is included. The cheapest model, with 512GB of storage and no controller, is priced at £879. For £938, customers can get a 512GB model with the official Steam Controller. Those needing more storage can opt for the 2TB model without a controller for £1,149, or the 2TB model with the official Steam Controller for £1,208. The 2TB versions come with red fabric and solid walnut faceplates.

Customers can also use other gamepads with the Steam Machine, including the PS5 DualSense and Xbox Series controller.

What Happens After the Random Draw?

Valve explains that after the randomization on June 25, there are two possible outcomes. Successful applicants will be added to the reservation queue and will receive a further email to complete the purchase once a unit becomes available. The first batch will be shipped on June 29, and Valve will continue to work through the reservation queue as more units become available. Customers who are not successful will be added to a waitlist. If some customers cancel their reservations, waitlisted individuals may be moved up in the queue and notified via email. If not, their position remains unchanged, and they will be offered units from future production runs in order.
