Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were subjected to a brutal on-air critique on Sky News Australia, where a commentator dissected their professional and personal setbacks ahead of their planned UK visit next month. The Sussexes are expected to arrive with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, for The Invictus Games, and may reunite with King Charles.
Scathing Assessment on Live Television
Sky News Australia host Danica De Giorgio set the stage by noting the significance of the trip, given Prince Harry's past claims that the UK is unsafe for his family and Meghan Markle's role in what she described as blowing up the Royal Family before the couple's move to California, dubbed 'Megxit'. TalkTV presenter Samara Gill expressed surprise at the couple's U-turn but acknowledged that re-establishing ties with the Royal Family could be in their best interest.
Gill then delivered a detailed critique of Harry and Meghan's ventures since stepping back from royal duties. She highlighted the collapse of their $20 million Spotify deal, which ended with an executive calling them 'f***ing grifters'. She noted that all their Netflix shows were cancelled, and their brand American Riviera Orchard, later renamed As Ever, faced delays. 'Meghan's jam company took longer to launch than Elon Musk took to build a rocket,' Gill remarked, adding that it ultimately failed, leaving stockrooms full of unsold jam.
Failed Projects and Departing Staff
Gill continued by listing other failed initiatives: the Archetypes podcast, which did not succeed; 'Confessions of a Female Founder', which was not renewed for a second season; and Prince Harry's memoir 'Spare', which, despite making millions, cost him his family relationships. The Netflix documentary 'Polo' also failed to secure a second season. Gill alleged that 19 staff members who left Archewell refer to themselves as the 'Sussex Survivors Club', underscoring internal turmoil.
'Their brand is in absolute dire straits. This is a last-ditch effort to rehab it,' Gill concluded.
King Charles's Potential Offer
Reports have emerged that King Charles may offer the couple accommodation at Buckingham Palace during their visit. Reacting to this, De Giorgio said: 'Look, he's probably going to offer them something, but I feel like, if anything, it's out of the goodness of his own heart, and, perhaps, he does want to have some sort of a relationship with his wayward son. I just think that would be extraordinarily nice given what the two of them have put the palace through.'
