Gabby Logan has opened up about a significant change in her family dynamic during a recent episode of her podcast, The Mid Point with Gabby Logan. The 53-year-old presenter was joined by her husband, former rugby player Kenny Logan, 54, and their daughter Lois, 20, a showjumper. The conversation centred on how the family has adapted since their son Reuben moved to Manchester last summer.
Shift in Family Dynamics
Gabby addressed Lois directly, saying: “Reuben has been in Manchester now for about nine months since last summer. It’s the biggest shift in our family dynamic. You come home quite a lot… you’re still home 50 percent of the year and he has been home twice since he went out there or three times maybe for one night occasionally.”
The broadcaster explained that she gets to see her son when travelling to Manchester to present Match of the Day, while Kenny also visits to watch him play rugby. However, Lois noted that she does not see her brother nearly as often, despite them staying in touch more regularly.
“I don’t see him nearly as much… He actually calls me more now. He’s definitely grown up a lot. Yesterday he called me and he was just driving back from training, we had a nice long chat,” Lois said.
Lois on City Life
Elsewhere in the podcast, Lois became more candid about her feelings towards London. She admitted that while she does not mind travelling into the city for recordings, she finds it overwhelming, particularly during busy periods.
“I’m sure there’s lots of people who can understand the feeling. It’s like people stepping on my toes… I can appreciate London, today’s nice, Soho’s lovely, but when it’s Christmas time, there’s a lot. Also, I’m kind of scared someone is going to mug my phone or my handbag now. My arm is clamped under my shoulder,” she said.
In response, Gabby pointed out that crime rates in London have been falling, citing data from CrimeRate that suggests the capital’s overall crime risk has declined significantly over the past decade. She also suggested that Lois is naturally more suited to rural life than city living.
“We all know people who have had their phones nicked, so anecdotally, things aren’t great, but you are definitely, if I had to put you into a group, someone who loves nature and the countryside,” Gabby said.
Lois on Social Life
Lois, who is currently at university, added that while she enjoys socialising with friends, she is equally content spending time alone. “When I am out with my friends and doing things, I generally enjoy it and I do tend to have a good time. But there’s also that devil on my shoulder being like, ‘Stay at home. Read a book. Go to bed at eight o’clock with some sleepy tea.’ I’m 20, it’s a bit embarrassing really, but I do go out,” she said.
