Emmerdale reveals Charity Dingle's future after assault

Emmerdale has confirmed Charity Dingle's future in the ITV soap next week as she comes to terms with Dr Todd's assault. On Sunday (June 7), the show aired distressing scenes where Dr Caitlin Todd sexually assaulted Charity Dingle.

Charity's struggle with secrets

Charity has been struggling under the pressure that her secret about baby Leyla could be exposed at any moment. She turned to drink as Dr Todd continued to make demands. As Todd grew more menacing, she arrived at Charity's home and kissed her, but Charity rejected her before falling asleep on the sofa.

Noticing Charity had finished a bottle of wine, Dr Todd hovered over her and sneered: "Wake up. Drunk, disgusting w****! One too many? Bad, bad girl. You should know better... than to lose control." The horrific assault aired as she unzipped Charity's trousers, waking Charity, who begged her to stop.

Reporting the assault

On Monday (June 8), viewers saw the aftermath as Charity went to the Woolpack to celebrate Sarah's 21st birthday. After Sarah gave a heartfelt speech about Charity being the strongest person she knows, Charity made an excuse to leave and went to the police station. She reported Dr Todd for the assault and agreed to a medical examination to provide evidence.

Next week's spoilers

In the coming weeks, Charity will try to come to terms with what happened. Next week, Manpreet checks on Charity, who lies that her breakdown is postnatal depression. Manpreet prescribes medication, leaving Charity feeling utterly alone in her new lie. When Mack returns, Charity is upset to learn he told Sarah about her troubles. Alone, she washes sleeping pills down with wine.

The next day, Sarah feels guilty, believing her gran's presumed postnatal depression is a result of being her surrogate. She desperately wants to know more when Charity suggests there's "more going on." Charity struggles to share her real pain, deflecting the conversation back to PND and her lack of sleep. Mack later consoles a distraught Sarah, who sobs, blaming the surrogacy for all Charity's emotional pain.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
