Television star Emily Atack has ignited a flurry of online speculation after showcasing a noticeably slimmer figure in recent social media posts. The actress and comedian, long celebrated for promoting body positivity, has seen fans and followers question the cause of her dramatic physical transformation, with many suggesting the use of weight loss injections.
Social Media Snaps Fuel Speculation
This weekend, the 36-year-old mother-of-one shared a mirror selfie from a London hair salon, debuting a new bob hairstyle. Dressed in a black shirt and jeans, Atack captioned the playful post "Bobviously". While many complimented her new haircut, a significant portion of the comments focused on her changing physique.
Further images from over the Christmas period and earlier in December also highlighted a trimmer waistline, including one where she posed in an outdoor bathtub with her toned back on display. The newfound confidence in her body has not gone unnoticed by her fanbase, who have watched her champion a more natural figure for years.
The 'Fat Jab' Rumours and a Silent Response
The visible change has led to widespread conjecture online that Atack may have turned to pharmaceutical aids to slim down. Popular injectable weight loss drugs such as Wegovy or Mounjaro – often colloquially referred to as 'fat jabs' – have been cited by commentators as a potential reason for her rapid transformation.
However, those close to the star indicate she is unlikely to address the rumours publicly. A friend told the Daily Mail, "She is acutely aware of what is her business and what is not." The Mirror has also reached out to Atack's representative for comment.
A History of Body Image Advocacy
The speculation presents an ironic twist for Atack, who has spent much of her career advocating for body acceptance and speaking out against the scrutiny of women's figures. Since her breakout role as Charlotte 'Big Jugs' Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners in 2008, she has frequently expressed discomfort with being sexualised and having her body analysed.
In a 2018 interview with the Daily Mail reflecting on her time in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, she stated her desire to break free from stereotype. "I really wanted to break that stereotype. I thought I needed to almost reinvent myself and show that there is more to me than a pouty face and a pair of boobs," she said.
She has also been a vocal critic of unrealistic beauty standards, telling Stylist magazine about the impact of thin mannequins. "It makes you feel like you've failed in some way," she explained. Atack has consistently defended her natural size, previously identifying as a size 10 to 14, and has urged fans to remember that many social media images are heavily edited.
Beyond body image, Atack has campaigned vigorously against the online abuse of women, having been targeted herself with sexually explicit content. She recently braced for further negative attention after appearing in a nude scene for the 2024 BBC drama Rivals, reaffirming her stance that women should not have to modify their professional work due to potential harassment.
