Emily Atack Embraces Village Life Near Family After Welcoming First Child
Actress and television personality Emily Atack, aged 36, has made a significant lifestyle change by moving to an idyllic village in Bedfordshire. The relocation places her just a short 15-minute drive from her mother's home and her own childhood residence, marking a return to her roots after two decades away.
Family and Career Milestones Prompt Move
This transition follows a period of personal and professional triumphs for Atack. In June 2024, she welcomed her first child, a baby boy named Barney, with her scientist fiancé Alistair Garner. Concurrently, her career has soared to new heights thanks to her acclaimed role in the television series Rivals, based on Jilly Cooper's novel, where she stars alongside notable actors Danny Dyer and David Tennant.
A source close to the actress revealed to The Sun: 'She moved out of her family home 20 years ago but is now back living just 15 minutes away from her mum in a neighbouring village. It's all because of the man she fell in love with – and how he's given her the confidence to trust herself. She's had the biggest success of her career to date since starring in Rivals and is now living the life she truly wants.'
Addressing Body Image and Weight Loss Speculation
Amidst these positive changes, Atack has faced unwarranted scrutiny over her physique. Following the Christmas period, she showcased a slimmer figure in a series of Instagram posts, wearing a chic black Agent Provocateur mini dress that sparked accusations of using weight-loss jabs from some followers.
Comments on her social media ranged from suggestive remarks like 'Skinny jabs are jabbing' and 'on the jabs?' to direct inquiries such as 'Are you on Mounjaro?' However, many fans rushed to her defence, criticising the focus on her body. One supporter noted: 'These comments! Aren't we over talking about women's bodies? The thing is, women can't win. We are either too fat or too skinny.' Another highlighted the disproportionate attention: 'Its amazing that she's posted a whole reel of lovely Xmas photos and 80% of the comments are about her body.'
Atack's Candid Reflections on Postpartum Pressure
In a November 2024 interview on Jamie Laing's Great Company podcast, Atack opened up about the pressures new mothers face regarding weight loss. She expressed frustration with societal expectations, stating: 'You get home and the first thing people say to you is, when are you going to get back in the gym? Are you kidding? I've just created a human, I am exhausted! The last thing I want to do is go to the gym but the first thing you're expected to do is get back into shape.'
She emphasised enjoying motherhood without rushing to shed baby weight, revealing she had actually gained weight since giving birth. Atack also reflected on her long-standing healthy relationship with her body, despite facing body-shaming early in her career during her role as Charlotte Hinchcliffe in The Inbetweeners. She recalled: 'Everybody started talking about my weight. There was a whole Facebook page dedicated to me/Charlotte Hinchcliffe. I couldn't believe how awful it was.'
Despite the trolling, she maintained that she has never engaged in unhealthy dieting or eating habits, attributing her resilience to mental training. The Daily Mail has reached out to Atack's representatives for further comment on her move and the ongoing discussions about her body image.
