Danny Dyer has firmly denied swirling rumours that he will be appearing on the upcoming series of Celebrity Traitors, bluntly stating that the BBC has not extended any invitation to him. The actor, known for his roles in EastEnders and Rivals, described the persistent speculation as "absolute nonsense" during a recent television appearance.
Rumours Dismissed as 'Absolute Nonsense'
While promoting his new series on The Jonathan Ross Show, Dyer addressed the widespread reports linking him to the hit BBC One programme. "I don't know why they're saying it," the 48-year-old actor told host Jonathan Ross in an episode scheduled to air on Saturday 21 February. "If they ask me I'll do it, but no one's asked me. I would declare it. I'm not on it, you'll see when it comes on."
Previous Reports and Wish Lists
Earlier in January, multiple media outlets reported that Celebrity Traitors producers had identified Dyer as a prime candidate for their 2026 celebrity cast. The wish list reportedly included other notable names such as Hugh Bonneville, Richard E. Grant, and Alison Hammond. According to sources speaking to The Sun, Dyer had initially turned down the show last year before becoming a fan of the format, prompting producers to renew their efforts to secure his participation.
"As soon as his tune changed, it was all systems go," an insider revealed to the publication at the time. However, Dyer's recent comments suggest these efforts have not yet materialised into any formal approach from the BBC or the show's production team.
Career Highlights and Current Projects
Dyer first gained recognition for his hard-man roles in films like Human Traffic (1999) and The Football Factory (2004), while also collaborating with renowned playwright Harold Pinter on four theatrical productions. His nine-year stint as Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter on EastEnders cemented his popularity, followed by a BAFTA-winning performance in the comedy Mr. Bigstuff.
More recently, Dyer has earned critical acclaim for his portrayal of Freddie Jones in the drama series Rivals. During his Jonathan Ross Show appearance alongside his daughter Dani Dyer, the actor teased that upcoming episodes would feature more risqué scenes for his character. "I don't think you'll be able to watch much of it," he told his daughter, who responded by recalling previous intimate scenes she had avoided watching.
Family Ventures and Personal Reflections
The father-daughter duo appeared on the chat show to promote their new Sky One series, The Dyers' Caravan Park, where they document their experience running a caravan park business. Dyer revealed that he initially rejected the concept but was ultimately inspired by nostalgic memories of his own childhood holidays.
"They were very simple days that I really do miss," Dyer explained. "So I thought, with the might of Sky behind me, let's see if we can make caravans interesting again to some people, with my firstborn child, of course."
The Jonathan Ross Show featuring Danny and Dani Dyer airs Saturday at 9:25pm on ITV1 and ITVX. Meanwhile, Celebrity Traitors fans will have to wait for official casting announcements to discover which celebrities will actually be entering the Scottish castle for the show's second series later this year.
