Wendy's has reversed its decision to discontinue its Sweet and Sour dipping sauce following a wave of customer complaints. The sauce was quietly removed from menus in September, prompting fans to demand its return on social media.
In a press release on Monday, the fast-food chain confirmed that the sauce is now available again in US restaurants. The company acknowledged the fan pressure, stating: 'Thousands of social media comments. Countless posts and tags. An undeniable wave of fan passion demanding one thing: the return of Wendy's Sweet and Sour dipping sauce.'
However, the sauce may only be available for a limited time. Wendy's posted on Instagram urging customers to 'get loud' to make it permanent, writing: 'Go get the sauce in-restaurant + like, comment and share this post to save it. SWEET & SOUR ARMY DO UR THING.'
Fans reacted strongly to the limited-time offer, with one commenting: 'Limited time???? Did you not learn!' Another wrote: 'I legit stopped eating at Wendy's when this was taken away. I will now go back but only if it stays.'
The return comes as Wendy's undergoes a restructure focused on value deals. Chief financial officer Ken Cook said the company had 'swung the pendulum too far towards limited-time price promotions instead of everyday value' in 2025. Wendy's has launched a permanent 'Biggie Deals' value menu with three price points.
Wendy's also enlisted social media creator Jaz Smith, who had previously criticised the discontinuation in a viral TikTok video, to announce the sauce's return. 'No dream is too big,' she said. 'We asked for Sweet and Sour sauce and Wendy's delivered!'
