Dame Joan Collins continues to defy her age with a stunning appearance at Tuesday's Summer Evening Gala hosted by Shooting Star Children's Hospices at The Ivy Chelsea Garden. The acting icon, aged 92, stepped out alongside her husband Percy Gibson, drawing admiration for her youthful look.
Charity Event Highlights
Joan and her 61-year-old husband helped raise funds for terminally ill children across London and Surrey. The star looked incredible in a white satin tuxedo-style jacket, pinned with a rose on the lapel. She complemented the look with a plain black shirt featuring leather edging, matching smart trousers, and black trainers with a thick white sole.
Percy Gibson beamed beside his wife, cutting a dapper figure in a white button-up shirt, black slacks, and a camel blazer. The couple put on a smitten display at the event.
Joan's Youthful Secrets
Joan has previously shared how she maintains her youthful appearance. She declared she refuses to use weight-loss drugs, as they can have "disastrous" effects on appearance. Instead, she simply "cut down" on what she eats. She told Hello! magazine: "I don't believe in needles and things. I've never had Botox or anything in my face." Regarding injections for weight loss, she added: "I'd never dream of doing something like that. I have seen too many disastrous faces. I think if you're going to lose weight, you have to cut down. You want to enjoy your life. You don't want to live on a celery stick."
In January, she opened up further about remaining young-looking. When asked about the best advice given by another woman, she recalled: "When I used to sunbathe, and get very tanned, this friend of mine said, 'Don't get the sun on your face, it'll age you very fast'. So I never did."
The Science Behind Sun Avoidance
The term for skin damage due to sun exposure is photoaging, caused by ongoing exposure to UVA and UVB radiation. Tanning beds and sun lamps emit the same radiation and are equally harmful. Avoiding intense sun exposure also reduces the risk of developing certain cancers.
Joan insists the best option is to avoid sun exposure wherever possible. Her timeless advice continues to inspire fans worldwide.
