Comedian Tom Gleeson mercilessly mocked singer Anthony Callea during an appearance on ABC's Hard Chat on Wednesday. Gleeson targeted Callea's career, marriage, and short stature in a series of savage jokes.
Gleeson opened by asking, 'What's it like to be a ventriloquist's doll come to life?' referring to Callea's height of 157cm. He then quipped, 'You came second on Australian Idol, fourth on I'm a Celebrity and fifth on It Takes Two... is losing something you do professionally?'
Callea, 36, laughed off the insults, defending his 15-year career: 'It's worked for me so far! Like, 15 years and I haven't won anything and I'm still OK, I think.'
Gleeson also mocked Callea's music, asking about his Christmas album: 'Why didn't you call it This Is S**t?' He later turned to Callea's marriage, asking, 'You met your husband Tim while doing the musical Rent. Is that the gayest way to start a gay relationship?' Callea cheekily agreed.
The interview concluded with Gleeson poking fun at Callea's hit single 'The Prayer,' asking if he wanted to 's**t people in two languages.' Callea admitted he didn't understand the lyrics at the time.
