Television personality Carol McGiffin has openly discussed her desire for another facelift, confessing that while she feels she needs the procedure, financial constraints and her husband's reaction are preventing her from going under the knife again. The former Loose Women host, aged 66, underwent a facelift in 2018 and showcased the results on the ITV daytime programme. However, nearly eight years later, McGiffin believes the effects have largely diminished, leaving her considering another surgery if not for the prohibitive expense.
Financial and Personal Barriers to Surgery
During an appearance on the Suddenly Single podcast, McGiffin explained her predicament in detail. She stated that her husband, Mark Cassidy, 43, was horrified by her appearance immediately after the initial procedure, when she was swollen and bruised. McGiffin recalled, "He didn't like how I looked because it was gruesome when I was just out of it, the first two weeks where you're bruised." This experience has made her reluctant to put him through it again.
Financially, the cost is another significant hurdle. McGiffin admitted, "All I've had is that facelift and that was in 2018 so that is coming to the end of its life so I do need another one but I'm not going to get another one because I couldn't do it to Mark. Anyway, I can't afford it anymore, it's expensive." In the UK, facelift prices vary widely, with mini procedures ranging from £4,000 to £7,000 and full facelifts costing between £7,000 and £12,000. Some sought-after surgeons charge even more, with deep plane facelifts reaching up to £30,000.
Struggles with Aging and Self-Image
McGiffin also touched on broader issues of aging and self-acceptance, noting that many people find it difficult to come to terms with changing appearances as they grow older. She said, "This is what happens when you get old, you can't always look like you did when you were 40. You just can't. I know people think they can but the amount of money people must spend on treatments, it's so expensive."
Reflecting on her own feelings, she added, "I don't like my face very much. When I'm laughing it's fine but when I'm in a mood, it's horrible." This candid admission highlights the emotional challenges tied to cosmetic procedures and aging in the public eye.
Personal Life and Marriage Revelations
Elsewhere in the interview, McGiffin addressed her marriage to Mark Cassidy, expressing regret over upsetting family and friends when they eloped without notice. The couple, who have been together for almost 18 years, married in Bangkok in February 2018 with no loved ones present. McGiffin said, "Quite a few people were upset we'd done it without telling them. We didn't even tell Mark's mum and dad until about six months later. People want to make such a big deal of it and it really isn't."
She emphasized the strength of their relationship, noting, "We'd already been together 10 years when we got married and we're coming up to 18 years together now. I was sorry I upset people by not telling them. We did it without telling anybody." Cassidy has been a pillar of support for McGiffin, particularly during her battle with stage 3 breast cancer in 2015. In a past interview with the Telegraph, she praised him as "unbelievable" during her diagnosis, saying, "I think it has been tougher for Mark than me. When my hair started falling out, I thought there was no point hanging onto it. We bought a pair of clippers and Mark shaved it off."
Past Relationships and Career Context
Carol McGiffin was previously married to radio and television presenter Chris Evans. They wed in 1991, separated three years later, and finalized their divorce in 1998. Her career, notably as a host on Loose Women, has kept her in the public spotlight, making her personal revelations about cosmetic surgery and marriage all the more poignant for fans and observers.
