Candace Cameron Bure Reflects on 30-Year Marriage: 'Highs and Really Low Lows'
Candace Cameron Bure on marriage lows ahead of 30th anniversary

Ahead of a major marital milestone, actress Candace Cameron Bure is offering a refreshingly honest and realistic look at her nearly three-decade union with husband Valeri Bure.

Navigating the 'Shallow Valleys' of a Long-Term Partnership

Speaking on her eponymous podcast this week, the 49-year-old former child star confessed that her journey to a 30th wedding anniversary has not been without significant challenges. '[There have been] lots of highs and there's been some really low lows,' she revealed. Cameron Bure described periods where the couple felt stuck, comparing it to sitting in a shallow valley. 'Where you're like, "This isn't the best, but that's just life." We'll just kind of go through it,' she explained.

The two-time Daytime Emmy nominee went on to detail a common hurdle in long relationships: a fear of brutal honesty. 'For us, we didn't have either the confidence or just the straight-up courage to be honest enough with each other to say the really hard things because I know they're gonna hurt your feelings,' she admitted. However, she emphasised that sometimes you have to reach a low point to find a way out. 'I know that we can feel stuck. We want to get unstuck.'

A Pandemic Crisis and an Unlikely Intervention

The couple's resilience was tested profoundly during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when Cameron Bure previously confessed they endured a 'really rough season' and doubted they would 'make it through.' The turning point came from an unexpected source: their own son.

Their eldest child, Lev, who is now 25 and vice president of the family's wine business, intervened. 'He preached, like, a 45-minute sermon on marriage to us. Just had his Bible open on the couch and just talked about it,' the producer-star of Ainsley McGregor Mysteries recalled. Lev challenged both parents, asking if they had given every possible ounce of grace and kindness to reconcile. The profound moment left Candace and Valeri reflecting, '"Huh, we raised some pretty good kids."'

From Charity Game to Family Wines: A Lasting Legacy

The couple's story began when Cameron Bure was just 19. She was introduced to the then-NHL star Valeri Bure, now 51, by her Full House castmate Dave Coulier at a charity hockey game in Los Angeles.

Now, the devout Christian pair are united not only by love and faith but also by business. They co-founded Bure Family Wines in Napa Valley in 2006 with friend Joshua Peeples. Alongside Lev, they are also proud parents to daughter Natasha, 27, and son Maksim, who turns 24 next Tuesday.

Candace Cameron Bure first found fame as D.J. Tanner on the hit sitcom Full House, a role she later reprised for Netflix's Fuller House. Her candid reflections offer a rare glimpse into the sustained effort required to maintain a high-profile marriage in the public eye, proving that even the most seemingly solid unions require work, courage, and sometimes, guidance from the next generation.
