Brooklyn Beckham has dramatically escalated his ongoing family rift by instructing his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, to communicate with him only through lawyers, according to insiders. The latest twist in the saga reportedly stems from a simple social media 'like' from his mother on one of his cooking videos.
The 'Like' That Sparked a Legal Request
Sources claim the situation reached a new low last month when Brooklyn decided to block his entire family on social media. This drastic move was allegedly triggered after fashion designer Victoria Beckham 'liked' the most recent cooking clip her eldest son had posted on Instagram. This action was seen as directly contravening a formal request from Brooklyn.
An insider told The Daily Mail that "the fact is that Victoria did send out a 'like'. She misses him every hour of every day." However, they lamented that "getting the lawyers involved only dials up the conflict and has meant that it has got out of control."
Mental Health and a Plea for Privacy
The legal letter, sent last summer, explicitly asked David and Victoria Beckham not to contact their son directly or make public statements about him on social media. It has since been reported that the letter's primary intention was to protect Brooklyn's mental health.
Sources indicate that online posts from his parents in which he was tagged or mentioned had begun to negatively affect him. A source familiar with the row told The Mirror that the situation escalated after his "requests to stop" had gone ignored. "It had been leading to issues with his mental health…it was to protect himself," they explained.
It is understood that Brooklyn desires any reconciliation attempts to happen "privately" rather than on social media. The source added that Brooklyn reportedly feels his parents still view him as a child and not as an adult.
Wider Family Fallout and Social Media Wipes
The feud intensified over the weekend when Brooklyn's wife, actress Nicola Peltz, deleted all traces of the Beckham family from her Instagram account. This included a birthday tribute post dedicated to her mother-in-law, Victoria. In contrast, Brooklyn has not yet purged his own account of family photos.
Nicola's actions came after Brooklyn's younger brother, Cruz Beckham, publicly confirmed last month that Brooklyn had blocked the entire family. Cruz stated on social media: "My mum and dad would never unfollow their son... Let's get the facts right. They woke up blocked... as did I."
Despite the estrangement from his immediate family, it is claimed Brooklyn has maintained regular contact with all four of his grandparents.
Roots of the Rift: Wedding Dress Drama
Rumours of tension between Nicola Peltz and Victoria Beckham first emerged around the time of Nicola and Brooklyn's multi-million-dollar wedding in April 2022. Speculation was fuelled when Nicola did not wear a wedding dress designed by Victoria, opting for creations from Valentino and other major fashion houses instead.
Nicola has since addressed the rumours, insisting there is no "feud" but confirming the dress was a point of contention. "I think it all started... because I didn't end up wearing Victoria's wedding dress," she said, adding that she had genuinely wanted to wear it but Victoria's atelier did not have time to make it. She has repeatedly denied any major falling out, stating simply: "No family is perfect."
Publicists and friends connected to both sides are currently refusing to comment on the matter, reportedly still hoping for a private resolution. However, one source summarised the stark communication breakdown: "David was told to speak to them via Schillings. That was the only way for them to communicate." The family, who had previously been viewing and liking Brooklyn's posts, are now adhering to his wish to be left alone.
