Pop icon Britney Spears has used social media to deliver a sharply sarcastic holiday greeting to her estranged relatives, highlighting the ongoing tensions within the famous family.
A Sarcastic Seasonal Salvo on Instagram
On Sunday, following the Christmas period, the 44-year-old Baby One More Time singer took to Instagram. She posted a picture of a decorated festive tree alongside a message dripping with irony. "Merry late Christmas to my beautiful family who have never disrespected me, harmed me, ever done anything completely unacceptable or caused unbelievable trauma, the kind you can’t fix," she wrote.
The mother-of-two, who had celebrated the holiday with her 19-year-old son Jayden, continued the pointed post. "To my dear sweet innocent family … so so sorry I was busy this Christmas but I will definitely show up and surprise you soon … I can’t wait." She concluded with a special mention for her seven-year-old niece, Ivey, writing, "Hello, beautiful Ivy … I just want to hold you, my love," before signing off with "Godspeed, friends."
Separate Holiday Celebrations for the Spears Clan
The post came after what appears to have been a Christmas spent apart by different branches of the family. A source told People magazine that Britney "had a fun time celebrating Christmas with Jayden," calling it a "special holiday" following her recent reconciliation with her sons after a period of estrangement.
Meanwhile, her older son, 20-year-old Sean Federline, reportedly remained in Louisiana due to work commitments. He spent the festive season with his aunt, Jamie Lynn Spears, and his grandmother, Lynne Spears. On Christmas Day, Jamie Lynn, 34, shared photos of her family gathering, which included Sean, her husband Jamie Watson, daughters Ivey and Maddie, 17, and mother Lynne.
A Fractured Family History and Ongoing Feud
The sarcastic message is the latest chapter in years of public discord between Britney and her family. The rift stems largely from the 13-year conservatorship that controlled her life and finances, which was terminated in November 2021.
Britney has repeatedly accused family members of complicity in the restrictive legal arrangement. In a dramatic court statement during her fight for freedom, she declared, "My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a key role in punishing me, they should be in jail."
The feud with her sister, Jamie Lynn, escalated in January 2022 following the publication of Jamie Lynn's memoir, Things I Should Have Said. Britney used Instagram to condemn the book's timing, accusing her sister of lying and stating her "whole family" knew about the alleged abuses she suffered.
This latest holiday exchange underscores that, despite the end of the conservatorship, the deep-seated family tensions remain unresolved, playing out on a very public stage.
