Brent Spiner Spotted at 77 in Hollywood Hills

Star Trek legend Brent Spiner was recently observed cutting a remarkably sprightly figure while stepping out in the Hollywood Hills, showcasing his vitality at the age of 77. The actor, who first achieved global fame portraying the sentient android Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation, appeared in casual attire during his outing.

From Stage to Starship: Spiner's Iconic Role

Spiner's breakthrough came in 1987 when he joined the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation as Data, an android crew member aboard the USS Enterprise-D. The series, led by Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, featured an ensemble including Whoopi Goldberg and LeVar Burton. Data's character, known for his keen intelligence and inscrutable nature, served a function reminiscent of Leonard Nimoy's Dr. Spock from the original 1960s Star Trek, quickly endearing him to franchise enthusiasts.

A Career Spanning Decades and Mediums

Spiner's professional journey began on the New York stage during the 1970s. By the 1980s, he secured a place in the original cast of the celebrated musical Sunday in the Park with George. This production, featuring music by Stephen Sondheim and a book by James Lapine, starred Mandy Patinkin as painter Georges Seurat and Bernadette Peters as his muse Dot, with Spiner in supporting roles.

In 1984, as Sunday in the Park with George debuted on Broadway, Spiner relocated to Los Angeles to pursue screen opportunities. After appearances on television series such as Night Court and Cheers, he successfully auditioned for the role of Data in 1987. Spiner remained with Star Trek: The Next Generation throughout its seven-season run until 1994 and subsequently appeared in four film spin-offs: Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis.

Beyond the Final Frontier

Although indelibly linked to Star Trek, Spiner has guest-starred on numerous television shows including Friends, Mad About You, The Blacklist, and The Big Bang Theory. His filmography features roles in Independence Day, Dude, Where's My Car?, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, and Martin Scorsese's The Aviator. He has also maintained his stage presence, performing in Broadway revivals such as 1776 and Man of La Mancha.

In recent years, fans have seen Spiner reprise Data on the television series Star Trek: Picard from 2020 to 2023 and heard his voice on the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks in 2024. Most recently, he announced a new podcast venture with his former co-star Jonathan Frakes, who played Commander Riker. Titled Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny, the podcast, while not exclusively focused on Star Trek, acknowledges the series that propelled them to stardom will inevitably be a topic of discussion.

During his recent Hollywood Hills appearance, the now snowy-haired actor sported a relaxed ensemble consisting of an olive green hoodie worn open over a black t-shirt, demonstrating his enduring and casual style off-screen.
