Actress Billie Piper has spoken candidly about the challenges of co-parenting with her ex-husband, actor-turned-commentator Laurence Fox, describing it as a situation of 'enormous difficulty'. Piper, known for her roles in Doctor Who and I Hate Suzie, shares two sons with Fox, from whom she divorced in 2016.
In an interview with Vogue, Piper discussed how she manages when Fox's controversial comments make headlines. 'I close everything down and keep a very strict routine with the kids so that there's consistency,' she said. 'I keep them close. That's all I can do.' She added that she avoids reading about Fox and asks others not to bring up the subject.
Fox was sacked by GB News last year after an on-air comment about a female journalist, which Ofcom later ruled breached broadcasting rules. He also lost a High Court libel case in January and was arrested in October on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to Ulez cameras.
Piper, who stars in the upcoming Netflix film Scoop, said the experience has made her 'feel stronger in many ways'. 'I've learnt I have a lot of resilience I didn't know I had,' she told the magazine. 'I've had to learn the hard way that you can only control yourself and how you react to things.'
Fox responded to the interview on X, taking 'great exception to the assertion that co-parenting with me is enormously difficult'. He said he has 'done my absolute best to put the kids first' and suggested the family court system is 'weighted towards the mother'. Piper also addressed being asked about her first husband, DJ Chris Evans, saying it 'was 20 years ago'.
