The mother of social media sensation Angry Ginge has spoken exclusively about her pride and emotions as her son prepares to enter the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle, revealing details of their heartbreaking final phone call.
Emotional Birthday Call Before Jungle Entry
Michelle, mother of 24-year-old Morgan - better known as Angry Ginge - described how her son managed to make a special birthday call from Australia using a producer's phone before having his device confiscated. The bookies' favourite to win this year's series sounded absolutely buzzing according to his proud mum.
During their emotional conversation, Morgan revealed he'd been watching old episodes of SAS: Who Dares Wins to mentally prepare for the challenges ahead. His mother told the Mirror: "He told me he's been watching SAS to get himself mentally ready for the jungle, which is so him."
From Council Estate to Celebrity Status
The journey to jungle fame began in a Salford council estate where Michelle raised Morgan and his sister on just £12,500 per year. It was in his bedroom that the young content creator first started live-streaming himself playing football video games under the username Angryginge13.
Initially baffled by her son spending up to 10 hours daily streaming, Michelle has watched amazed as he amassed more than five million followers across social media platforms. His success has led to friendships with celebrities including Wayne and Coleen Rooney, darts legend Luke Littler and Tottenham Hotspur footballer James Maddison.
Heartbreaking Goodbye and Family Bonds
Michelle grew emotional describing their final goodbye during the birthday call, admitting: "I told him that if I'd actually seen him in person, I think I would've cried, although I did well up when I said goodbye on the phone."
She revealed the poignant moment when "my throat just went" as they exchanged I love yous, describing it as one of those "proper lump-in-the-throat moments." Despite the emotion, Morgan maintained his typical humour, laughing about how his mum wouldn't cope with the 5am starts required when she flies to Australia to meet him on the famous bridge after the show.
Before facing three weeks of camp life, Morgan was making the most of final luxuries, having discovered an indoor swimming pool and sauna at his hotel. His mother described him as a "big softie" who was particularly excited about visiting a koala sanctuary, grinning ear to ear while describing the animals.
The social media star, who last went on holiday in 2018 for his uncle's wedding, has previously spoken about how his humble beginnings help people relate to him. Having recently bought his own home after renting a £350-per-month apartment he described as a "s***hole," Morgan admitted to feeling nervous about meeting established celebrities in the jungle, confessing he might experience "imposter syndrome."
