Actress Amanda Seyfried has said she will not apologise for describing right-wing activist Charlie Kirk as “hateful” after he was shot dead in September. In an interview with Who What Wear, the Housemaid star stood by her comment, saying it was based on “actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes”.
Seyfried faced backlash in September after leaving the comment “He was hateful” on an Instagram Reel compiling Kirk’s controversial quotes. She later posted a separate statement on 17 September clarifying that while she found Kirk’s rhetoric misogynistic and racist, she also condemned his murder as “absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable”.
In the interview, Seyfried said she appreciated being able to use Instagram to clarify her position. “Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualised,” she said.
