The glittering mystery of ITV's The Masked Singer has claimed its first celebrity victim of the new series. In a surprising early exit, Alex Jones, the beloved long-time presenter of BBC's The One Show, was unmasked as the character Disc Jockey on Saturday, 3rd January 2026.
A Performance for Her Family
Jones took to the stage in the elaborate Disc Jockey costume to perform a rendition of Chappell Roan's Pink Pony Club. Despite her efforts, she found herself in the bottom two against the mysterious Gargoyle. After the panel's vote, Gargoyle was saved, sealing Disc Jockey's fate.
Before removing her mask, the judging panel – Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, and Maya Jama, with a guest guess from Anne-Marie – made their final predictions. Guesses ranged from radio presenter Annie Mac and footballer Jill Scott to baking legend Dame Mary Berry and singer Bonnie Tyler. All were incorrect.
When the mask finally came off, a delighted Alex Jones addressed host Joel Dommett and the studio. "I have had a lot of fun," she said. "We love this programme, as a family, and I just thought it would be a lot of fun to do it for my children. And it's the most bizarre experience of my life!"
An Emotional Dedication
The 48-year-old presenter, married to Charlie Thomson, then made an emotional dedication to her three young children. "Teddy, Kit and Annie, this was for you. I hope that you've loved it," she said. Jones later explained that she wanted her brave performance to serve as a lesson, stating: "I want them to know that overcoming fear is a good thing. I am not a singer but I gave it a go, and I think that’s the take home for them."
She finished her time on the show with an unmasked reprise of her song, earning massive applause from the audience.
What's Next for The Masked Singer?
With Disc Jockey revealed, the competition continues with Gargoyle, Red Panda, Can of Worms, Moth, and Sloth still in the running. The action resumed on Sunday, 4th January, with a new batch of celebrities – Monkey Business, Teabag, Toastie, Yak, Arctic Fox, and Conkers – performing for the first time.
This series has already seen a major format twist, with the introduction of a live band called 'No Trout', whose lead singer was revealed in the first episode to be pop star Anne-Marie as Goldfish. Judges and host Joel Dommett have praised the new energy this brings, with Dommett calling the first two unmaskings "pretty substantial."
Jonathan Ross teased that the seventh series is packed with more unmaskings than ever, while Davina McCall said the new ideas have made the show feel "fresh." The Masked Singer continues on ITV1 and ITVX.
