Alan Carr Declares 'Turret Era' in Hilarious Castle Hunt After Traitors Win
Comedian Alan Carr has humorously announced he is entering his "turret era" as he actively searches for a castle to purchase and call home. The 50-year-old Celebrity Traitors winner made the lighthearted admission during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, revealing his desire for a property with extensive grounds, animals, and guests enjoying cream teas.
Midlife Crisis Sparks Castle Quest
Alan Carr explained his unconventional approach to a midlife crisis, stating that while others might opt for a ponytail or a luxury car, he has set his sights on acquiring a castle. "I'm buying a castle. I'm having a midlife crisis. I want a turret to call my own. I'm in my turret era," he told the ITV programme. Carr expressed feeling lonely in his current residence and envisions a more communal living environment.
The comedian elaborated: "I fancy a move and I loved being in The Traitors castle, so I thought, 'I'm going to get myself one.' You know when people have a midlife crisis that they get a ponytail or a Lamborghini... I want a castle. You know when you fancy something? I just want one. I'm 50 this year – I know I don't look it – and I just want one."
Disney+ Series and Grand Plans
Carr's castle hunt is not merely a whimsical idea; it forms the basis of a new Disney+ series titled Castle Man. The show will document his quest to find, purchase, and manage a historic castle. He expressed a particular fondness for Scotland as a potential location.
His vision for the property includes creating a community hub with various animals. "I know it sounds very grand. I'm moving from where I am at the minute, I want animals there, I want a community thing," Carr said. "I'm lonely where I am. It'll be nice, having people come there and have a cream tea. I want people to come in and have donkeys and stuff everywhere. I want to reintroduce wolves. I want it to be like a big old zoo."
Traitors Fame and International Recognition
Reflecting on his victory in Celebrity Traitors, Carr shared an amusing anecdote about being recognised in the United States, where he is not typically well-known. During a recent holiday, a woman approached him, exclaiming, "I see you Traitor! Who've you murdered today?" He joked that people now perceive him as a murderer scouting for his next victim.
Other Guests on The Jonathan Ross Show
The episode also featured Scream actress Neve Campbell, comedian Rob Beckett and his author wife Lou, and actor Archie Madekwe, with musical performances by Mumford & Sons. Madekwe discussed his lead role in the 2023 car racing film Gran Turismo, revealing he learned to drive just a week before filming and was taught by the secret Top Gear Stig, reaching speeds of 180 miles per hour.
The Jonathan Ross Show airs at 9.35pm on Saturday on ITV1 and ITVX.
