Alan Carr emerged as the unlikely winner of The Celebrity Traitors, pulling off a brazen victory that left viewers stunned. The comedian, who was initially seen as the weak link among the three traitors, managed to evade detection throughout the series, ultimately convincing his fallen enemies to comfort him at the finale.
Carr's transformation from a nervous, hyperventilating traitor to a confident ringleader was remarkable. He seized an early opportunity to murder his close friend Paloma Faith, which emboldened him to take control. While Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns were also traitors, Carr's charm and lack of outward aggression allowed him to fly under the radar, as the faithfuls focused on the 'Big Dog' theory, targeting high-profile contestants like Ross and Stephen Fry.
The faithfuls were widely criticised for their ineptitude, taking seven episodes to identify even one traitor. Despite Carr's nervous giggles when denying his traitor status, they failed to catch him. Kate Garraway and David Olusoga were among those who pursued misguided lines of inquiry, contributing to the group's overall failure.
Carr's victory was total, as he slashed through the competition with a mix of charm and ruthlessness. His performance, described as almost performance art, secured his place as a deserving champion in the series.
