Barry McGuigan Rules Out I'm A Celebrity Return, Reflects on Hunger and Camaraderie

Barry McGuigan has ruled out a return to I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, despite winning over viewers during the 2024 series. The 65-year-old former world boxing champion, who appeared alongside Coleen Rooney and McFly's Danny Jones, said he enjoyed the experience but would not do it again.

Speaking before the final, McGuigan admitted he struggled with hunger throughout his time in the jungle. 'I was starving the whole way through - genuinely really hungry,' he said. 'If we mucked up our trails, we didn't get food, so that happened several times.' He lost a stone and a half during the show and described his own task performances as 'rubbish'.

Despite the challenges, McGuigan praised the camaraderie among campmates, singling out Danny Jones, Melvin Odoom, and Coronation Street's Alan Halsall as 'great lads'. He said he made a lot of friends during the experience.

The boxing legend also reflected on the tragic death of opponent Young Ali in 1982, which he said changed safety regulations in the sport. 'I killed that young man that night. I will never forget it,' he said, noting that paramedics and ambulances were not present at ringside at the time.

McGuigan also spoke emotionally about his daughter Danika, who died from bowel cancer in 2019 at age 33. She had previously battled leukaemia as a child. He credited actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who portrayed McGuigan in the 1998 film The Boxer, with inspiring Danika to become an actress.
