Adam Thomas Reveals Unseen David Haye Chat After I'm A Celeb Row 'Broke' Him

Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has revealed that he had a heart-to-heart conversation with David Haye amid their bullying row on I'm A Celebrity, as the boxer attempted to explain his actions and offer an apology. The actor, best known for his roles in Emmerdale and Waterloo Road, participated in I'm A Celebrity... South Africa towards the end of last year, where he famously clashed with Haye over a health condition.

The Arthritis Struggle and Camp Tensions

Adam Thomas suffers from arthritis, an autoimmune disease he has been open about, which causes significant pain. He explained previously that his immune system attacks his own body, leading to intense discomfort. During the show, David Haye did not appear to understand this condition when he tried to pressure Adam into undertaking a Bushtucker Trial. This lack of understanding sparked tensions that escalated into a public row, with fans criticising Haye's comments and over 170 Ofcom complaints being filed.

In dramatic scenes, Adam attempted to sleep and admitted it would be difficult for him to participate in a trial due to dehydration. Haye responded angrily, questioning Adam's commitment and suggesting he was avoiding challenges. Gogglebox legend Scarlett Moffatt intervened, urging Haye to stop, highlighting the volatile atmosphere in camp.

The Private Apology and Emotional Breakdown

Now, Adam has disclosed that he and David Haye had a private moment where the boxer apologised for his behaviour. Adam, who is the brother of former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas and ex-Love Island contestant Scott Thomas, shared this revelation on the At Home With The Thomas Bros podcast. He described how the experience was particularly tough for him, as he had a different mindset compared to his first appearance on I'm A Celebrity a decade ago.

"I did want to be there and there were elements of that experience where I was having an amazing time and I was loving every minute and every moment of it," Adam said. "But, I found it so tough. When I did it 10 years ago, I was in a completely different mindset. That was the worst thing for me, I was expecting it to be like the first time that I did it and I was like 'What is going on here?'"

He explained that in a normal environment, he would have removed himself from the situation, but in the camp, there was nowhere to hide. Adam admitted to his therapist that he struggled to stick up for himself because he prioritised others' feelings over his own, leading to a breaking point.

Haye's Explanation and Reconciliation

During their private chat, Adam confronted Haye, asking for an apology and listing the incidents that had upset him. Haye responded by saying he was trying to teach Adam a lesson, but then approached him and apologised sincerely. "He comes over to me and he goes, 'You know what? I'm sorry, Adam. And that meant so much to me. I swear down, the guy's got a heart of gold," Adam recalled.

Haye opened up about his own background and reasons for his behaviour, though Adam chose not to disclose the details out of respect. "He really opened up to me and he explained why he is the way that he is and all this stuff. And I don't want to go into it. It's not for me to talk about, but everyone's different and everyone is gonna react different in a different environment," Adam said.

While Adam acknowledged that Haye's actions were not right, he expressed understanding of the motivations behind them. He noted that when Haye left the camp, it felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, indicating the emotional toll the conflict had taken.

This revelation sheds light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics of reality TV, where conflicts can be intense but also lead to personal growth and reconciliation. Adam's experience highlights the challenges of navigating health issues in high-pressure environments and the importance of empathy and communication.
