Olympic champion Adam Peaty's mother, Caroline Peaty, has made a heartbreaking decision not to attend her son's wedding to Holly Ramsay, despite earlier reports she planned to gatecrash the ceremony.
A Family Feud Leads to Revoked Invitations
The build-up to the wedding, scheduled for 27 December at Bath Abbey, has been overshadowed by a public family rift. In November, Adam Peaty took the drastic step of uninviting multiple members of his own family from the nuptials. The only Peaty family member now expected to attend is the swimmer's sister, Bethany.
The tensions are believed to have begun last year when Caroline clashed with Holly's father, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. The disagreement reportedly centred on family members being excluded from an event being filmed for Ramsay's documentary series. The situation deteriorated further after Caroline was not invited to Holly's hen party at Soho Farmhouse, prompting public criticism from Adam's aunt, Louise Williams.
The Final Straw and a Heartbreaking Decision
Matters reached a critical point following Adam's stag do. The swimmer allegedly received "increasingly abusive and threatening" text messages, leading to police meeting him on the runway at Manchester Airport over safety concerns. His brother, James Peaty, was later arrested in connection with the incident.
Amid this turmoil, reports emerged that Caroline Peaty was still intending to show up at the wedding on 27 December, even without an invitation. However, a new development has seen her change her mind. After speaking with her husband, Mark, Caroline agreed it would be "too upsetting" to attend.
A family source told The Sun: "She will not be there because it would be too sad and she don’t want to spoil his big day." This poignant U-turn means the mother of the groom will be absent as her son says his vows.
A Mother's Public Plea for Reconciliation
Caroline Peaty, whose 60th birthday recently passed without public acknowledgement from Adam, has made a heartfelt public appeal to her son. In an online post directed at Adam, she expressed unconditional love and a desire for peace.
"I know it’s the end. But please, the message I want Adam to hear is no matter what happens in the future, please know I love you, your dad loves you, you can come home and talk to me at any point," she wrote. "There's nothing you’ve done that I would not forgive. I love you so much. I hope your marriage is a good one... The reason I’m speaking out is I want all this to end."
While the Peaty family will be notably absent, the Ramsay family were spotted travelling to Bath on Boxing Day, ahead of the wedding. The ceremony at the historic abbey will proceed, marking the culmination of Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay's relationship, but under the cloud of a profound and public family estrangement.
