Olympic champion Adam Peaty's lavish wedding to Holly Ramsay has been overshadowed by further controversy, as reports emerge that he also uninvited a close friend from the ceremony.
Another ally cut from the guest list
The swimmer, who tied the knot at Bath Abbey last weekend, had already made headlines for excluding his parents and most of his family from the event. Now, it is alleged that fellow swimmer and former teammate Michael Gunning was also removed from the invitation list in a move described as unexpected.
According to a source speaking to The Sun, Gunning was cut after growing too close to Adam's mother, Caroline Peaty, who has been publicly vocal about her hurt over being excluded. "The family have been in touch with him, and he said he is feeling very hurt by the couple – especially Adam," the insider revealed.
A friendship fractured
The source emphasised the depth of the former friendship, stating Gunning had been a key support for Peaty during his well-documented struggles with depression and alcohol in 2023. "Given how close they once were, Michael never would have seen this coming," the insider added.
It is claimed the rift between the two athletes began to appear shortly after Peaty and Ramsay's engagement party in December 2024. The situation has unfolded alongside a very public family fallout.
On the eve of the wedding, Caroline Peaty told the Mail that the situation felt like her "heart had been cut out," vowing, "I'm not going to be hurt like this again." Her sister, Louise, is also said to have sent Peaty a harsh text message just as he was about to marry, which he reportedly left unread.
Other notable absences and moving forward
The guest list scrutiny didn't end with family and Gunning. Peaty's Strictly Come Dancing partner Katya Jones was also absent. On Monday, Jones hinted she had spent the weekend at home, distancing herself from "toxic" drama and catching up on reading.
Despite the ongoing controversy, the newlyweds, now using the double-barrelled surname Peaty-Ramsay, have jetted off on their honeymoon, seemingly putting the drama behind them as they begin their married life.
