Newcastle United striker William Osula has made clear his ambitions to cement his place in the Denmark national team after earning his first senior caps. The 22-year-old made his first start for Denmark in a friendly against Ukraine, a match that was abandoned after former Tottenham and Manchester United star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch. Fortunately, Eriksen is recovering in hospital and is expected to be discharged soon.
Osula's Breakthrough Season
Osula's rise to the senior Denmark side caps a strong end to the season with Newcastle. He became Eddie Howe's preferred central striker ahead of Yoane Wissa, Nick Woltemade, and Anthony Gordon, repaying that faith with five goals in the final six Premier League games. That took his total to nine for the season in all competitions.
The Magpies could target a new goalscorer in the summer transfer window, but Osula is expected to remain an important part of the squad after previously coming close to leaving. Eintracht Frankfurt were keen on a loan deal last summer, but Howe was reluctant to let him go—a decision that paid off.
International Ambitions
Osula made his Denmark debut as a second-half substitute in a goalless draw with DR Congo earlier this month. Reflecting on his progress, he told Danish media outlet Bold: "Now I have made my debut and I am very grateful for that. If I continue to play well at club level, I hope I can become important for the national team and play a role here. I have to keep showing what I can do on the field and keep knocking."
Osula signed for Newcastle from Sheffield United in 2024 and has now scored 11 goals in 54 appearances for the club. With his international career now underway, he is determined to maintain his form and secure a regular spot for both club and country.
