The Repair Shop star Will Kirk has received support from gardening legend Alan Titchmarsh after battling with his garden at his Surrey countryside home. The antiques expert, who moved from London to Surrey with his wife Polly, described his outdoor space as a 'work in progress' and admitted to a 'desperate' struggle with his lawn.
A Move to the Countryside
Will, 41, relocated to Surrey after spending 39 years in London. He called his Victorian property a 'sanctuary' and explained that his work on The Repair Shop inspired the move. 'I used to drive from London and stay in Sussex, where the barn is located, from Monday to Friday. That's what inspired us to move for good,' he told Country Living magazine. He also noted that having children 'changes your priority' after previously believing London was 'where everything was'. Will and Polly share a son and a daughter.
Garden Challenges
Despite moving in a couple of years ago, Will struggled with his garden. Speaking to House Beautiful, he said: 'I've recently been outside desperately trying to breathe some life into the grass, which is really dry and dusty. One of my neighbours' plants keeps growing over the fence and strangling my roses, so I'm out there every week cutting them back.' Alan Titchmarsh, who lives nearby, offered to help. Will added: 'Alan Titchmarsh lives nearby and offered to come and take a look, but I told him I'd get it to a decent level first, then he can advise me on flowers and plants.'
Alan Titchmarsh's Support
Will had previously discussed his garden with Alan on the gardener's ITV show Love Your Weekend in 2025, where he acknowledged making gardening a 'priority' above all else at the Victorian home. He described his former London flat as having merely a balcony with 'some dying plants'. However, Will disclosed that Polly had alternative priorities, insisting they focus on transforming the interior into their dream home first. 'My wife was very firm with, 'Let's start with the inside of the house first before we paint the front door and start doing the gardening,' but I went straight to the garden,' he said.
Hot Tub Woes and New Enthusiasm
Will revealed the property's previous occupants had installed a hot tub in the garden, which left a 'big brown patch' on his lawn. While he's been battling to revive his grass, he acknowledges developing a genuine enthusiasm for horticulture. Speaking to Alan, he said: 'I've been doing a lot of gardening. I've been looking online at a lot of your videos on how to sow seeds and things like that. You make it look very easy!'
Will Kirk is appearing on The Chase Celebrity Special on Sunday night at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
