Ted, the much-loved Patterdale Terrier mix from the BBC's Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, passed away in April, but his extraordinary impact continues to inspire acts of kindness. A GoFundMe page established in his honor has surpassed its original £25,000 target, raising over £28,000 to support dog charities and fund a permanent memorial.
Fundraising Success
The GoFundMe campaign, organized by Lisa Clark, Ted's owner and the show's executive producer, has received an overwhelming response from fans. The page states: "Sadly we had to say goodbye to our Ted, the Gone Fishing Terrier. Due to the overwhelming amount of love shown by his fans, there have been a lot of thoughts and suggestions as to how to best honour his legacy and to reflect the joy he clearly brought to so many people."
It continues: "We are considering many ideas, including a permanent memorial and giving to various dog charities and related causes. We thought it would be best to keep all the ideas and donations in one place. So if you would like to make a contribution in his memory, this is the official place to do it. We will keep you updated with details of where the funds raised will go. And away little Ted ... you won't be forgotten."
Ted's Rise to Fame
Ted, a Patterdale terrier mix, was rescued from a dogs' home in Surrey in spring 2013 when he was about six months old. He went to live with Lisa Clark and quickly became a beloved companion. He made his first appearance on the popular BBC Two show in Series 3 in 2020, quickly becoming a fan favorite. During the Christmas special in Cornwall in 2025, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bob Mortimer expressed his grief at Ted's passing: "So very, very sad. Lovely Ted, the best companion and the greatest little chum. Going to miss him so much.. and away boss." Paul Whitehouse added: "Bye bye Ted old friend. He wasn’t a dog, he was a species all of his own. He’s gone to the great briefcase emporium in the sky. We will really miss you mate."
Literary Legacy
Ted also authored two best-selling books, A Pawtobiography and Pup Fiction, with a third book expected later this year. Lisa Clark said: "Ted was a much-loved family pet as well as a treasured companion to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing. He took fame in his little stride and loved nothing better than messing around on the riverbanks, nicking jammy dodgers from Bob and bait from Paul. He will be sorely missed both at home and on screen."
Ted will appear in one episode of the forthcoming series nine, marking his final appearance on the show. Fans can continue to donate via his GoFundMe page to support his enduring legacy.
