Runners taking part in the Blaydon Race on Tuesday, June 9, will be rewarded with a traditional Geordie Supper upon crossing the finish line. The annual 5.9-mile run from Newcastle to Gateshead follows the route of Geordie Ridley's famous folk song, and this year's finishers can look forward to a stottie sandwich, a special Blaydon Race beer, crisps, and water.
What the Geordie Supper Includes
Organisers have confirmed that finishers will receive the famous Geordie Supper, which offers a choice of ham and pease pudding or cheese savoury stottie sandwiches. Additionally, runners will be given a citrusy IPA brewed exclusively by Hadrian Border Brewery, along with crisps and water. The brewery described the beer as "refreshing and full of tropical flavours."
Other Rewards and Prizes
Beyond the supper, participants will receive a Blaydon Race T-shirt and have a chance to win random spot prizes. Trophies will be awarded to the first male and female finishers, as well as winners in categories including over-40, under-19, Blaydon residents, clubs, teams, and the first married couple with the lowest combined time. The latter will receive the Bob Houston Memorial Trophy, named after the late race organiser.
Transport and Logistics
Free shuttle buses will operate before and after the race, with increased capacity and an additional pick-up and drop-off location this year. Buses will run from Blaydon Leisure Centre and Metrocentre coach park to Baltic Square in Gateshead for the start, and from the finish area in Blaydon back to the Metrocentre or race start. Organisers recommend these buses as the most efficient travel option.
The Blaydon Race has been a popular event since 1981, celebrating local culture and community spirit. Road closures and route details have been previously announced.
