Amazon's big-budget James Bond-themed television game show, 007: Road to a Million, has reportedly been canceled by its producers after failing to resonate with fans of the iconic franchise. The show, which aired on Amazon Prime, was axed after just two seasons and 16 episodes.
Show Details and Reception
007: Road to a Million featured teams of two competing in Bond-inspired challenges reminiscent of The Amazing Race or The Traitors, with winners taking home a combined £9 million across both seasons. The show was hosted by British actor Brian Cox, known for his role in Succession.
Despite its high budget, the show received mixed to negative reviews. Lucy Magnan of The Guardian described it as "shoddy, boring, and soulless." The first season generated decent interest, but the second season fell flat, leading Amazon to pull the plug.
Industry Reaction
A Prime Video spokesperson stated that "there are no current plans to extend beyond the two seasons." An industry insider told The Sun that the concept was met with skepticism from Bond fans, and its failure is seen as "a slight embarrassment" for Amazon due to the "massive expense" involved.
Amazon's Bond Franchise Woes
Amazon acquired creative control of the Bond franchise in March 2025 after purchasing parent company Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for $8.5 billion in 2022. The company is currently searching for a new actor to play James Bond in the next film, with names like Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi on the shortlist.
Turner, who recently married pop star Dua Lipa, has commented on the speculation, calling it "weird." He said, "Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven't spoken to for 10 years - and you know nothing. It's such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all."
