In an exclusive interview, Nicola Walker and her co-stars from the Disney+ series Alice and Steve have shared their thoughts on the possibility of a second season. Walker, known for her roles in Unforgotten and The Split, expressed her enthusiasm for continuing the story: "Yes, yes please."
Walker Describes the Show as a 'Wild Pony'
Walker elaborated on the unpredictable nature of the series, comparing it to a "wild pony." She remarked, "It never does what you think it’s going to do and you can’t control it." Her co-star Jermaine Clement, who plays Steve, revealed that creator Sophie Goodhart has shared various ideas for a potential second season, some of which are "crazy." Clement added, "She’s had a lot of ideas, I don’t know where she is at the moment with them."
The Show's Premise and Cliffhanger Ending
Alice and Steve is a dark six-part comedy that follows the disintegration of a 30-year friendship between Alice (Walker) and Steve (Clement) when Steve begins dating Alice's 26-year-old daughter, Izzy. Alice resorts to increasingly outlandish methods to break up the age-gap romance, but Steve retaliates. The first season ends on an ambiguous cliffhanger, leaving fans eager for more.
Actress Yali Topol-Margalith, who plays Izzy, expressed her trust in Goodhart's vision: "I trust her whatever she’s doing, I’m along for the ride." She added, "I feel like I can never predict what she’s going to do next." Clement echoed this sentiment, noting the fun of reading scripts that keep viewers guessing.
Inspiration Behind the Series
Sophie Goodhart, writer of Sex Education and Rivals, revealed that the idea for Alice and Steve came from a conversation with a male friend who was dating someone younger. She joked about the predicament if he were dating her daughter, leading to the show's premise.
Alice and Steve is currently streaming on Disney+.
