Toby Alderweireld has once again expressed his willingness to return to Tottenham Hotspur and assist the club in rebuilding its culture following a challenging campaign.
Alderweireld's Connection with Tottenham
The Belgian defender, who hung up his boots in 2025, enjoyed a six-year stint at Spurs. During that period, the club experienced its most sustained success, competing for multiple Premier League titles and reaching the 2019 Champions League final under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
This season, Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation, a stark contrast to Alderweireld's time at the club. In May, he stated he would “do everything in his power” to help if called upon.
Spurs' Cultural Overhaul
The club has acknowledged the need for a cultural reset after a disappointing season. Alderweireld has again offered his services, though he confirmed that Tottenham have not yet reached out to him.
Speaking exclusively to Standard Sport, he said: “I was asked, 'Imagine if Spurs asked you, would you want to help the team or the club?' I said, 'Yeah, why not?' Let's see.
“I'm not saying that I will fix every problem. Of course not. But if they ask me what I think, of course I want to try to help. But I'm not saying I can fix it all.”
Gratitude and Connection
Alderweireld, who ended his playing career at Antwerp, described his time at Tottenham as the peak of his career. He said: “Antwerp was an unbelievable end of my career, and that's the club of my heart because it's my city. But I'm so thankful with Spurs, my best period as a football player at my peak.
“I think I've always had a very, very, very good connection with the fans, with the club. Yeah, so I'm very grateful. If I can help, if they want my help, why not?”
Toby Alderweireld was speaking exclusively to the London Standard in association with BOYLE Sports 2 Goals Ahead. The early payout offer allows fans to back a team and if they go 2 goals up at any point during a 90 minute match (e.g 2-0, 3-1, 4-2), BOYLE Sports will immediately settle as a winning bet, no matter the final result.
