Alan Perrie: Gold is the only goal at Commonwealth Games

Fallin boxer Alan Perrie is dreaming of Commonwealth Games gold after earning his place on Team Scotland. Backed by family, friends and a home crowd in Glasgow, the middleweight has only one target in mind - the top step of the podium.

The 20-year-old has been named as part of Team Scotland for the summer Games in Glasgow, where his sole aim is to win gold. Having grown up just around the corner from Stirling, in the village of Fallin, the former British and Scottish champion is desperate to put on a show in front of a passionate home support. And he has high hopes for what could be the biggest week of his life.

“My goal for the Games is a gold medal,” the middleweight said. “That's the only thing I'm looking at. I want to get on top of that podium. It's an absolute dream for me, to be going. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a young kid, so finally getting the confirmation that I'll be competing for Scotland means the world.”

Perrie has enjoyed a successful couple of years, including reaching the quarter-finals at the 2025 World Championships in Liverpool. That result led to the Scot, who boxes for Doghouse Boxing Club, being ranked seventh in the world in the World Boxing rankings. He is currently 18th.

He will hope to build on this success in Glasgow and admits his life is solely focused on boxing as he does everything he can to prepare for the ring.

“I live and breathe boxing,” Perrie added. “Boxing is my life. I wake up, eat breakfast, do the first training session of the day - normally either a strength and conditioning or running session. Then I refuel and come back into the gym for our second session of the day.”

After winning a bronze medal at the EUBC European Under-23 event in 2024, Perrie will hope to go two better at Glasgow - where the Games start on July 23 – and make a name for himself. A medal would put him in an excellent position ahead of the Olympics in 2028. Home support will be vital and he admits he has been working hard outside of the ring to prepare for the pressure - as well as the torrent of punches that will be thrown at him.

“The mental aspect of boxing is a very big factor,” he said. “You just need to stay focused, stay calm, and stay relaxed, but always have your mindset and your goals. I'll have quite a big crowd, I’ve got a lot of family and friends coming too. They’re big supporters of mine, so that'll be good to get them at the Games. I finally get the chance to show my skills in front of the world at the Commonwealth Games.”
