Royal Mint Launches Dennis the Menace 50p Coin for Beano's 75th Milestone
Royal Mint Issues Dennis the Menace 50p Coin for Beano Anniversary

The Royal Mint has officially launched a commemorative 50p coin honouring the legendary mischief-maker Dennis the Menace, marking a significant milestone of 75 years since his debut in the beloved Beano comic. This special release sees Dennis immortalised alongside his faithful dog Gnasher, capturing their iconic partnership in a vibrant collectible format.

A Colourful Tribute to a Comic Icon

In collaboration with Beano, The Royal Mint has created a coin that faithfully reproduces Dennis's signature red-and-black striped jumper and mischievous grin. A special edition features advanced colour printing technology, bringing the dynamic duo to life with striking visual appeal. The coin serves as a tangible celebration of Dennis's enduring legacy, first introduced to readers in Beano issue 452 on 17 March 1951.

Generations of Laughter and Rebellion

The Beano comic itself has been entertaining audiences for 87 years since its launch by Dundee-based publisher DC Thomson on 30 July 1938. Throughout its history, it has introduced numerous memorable characters including Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids, and Roger the Dodger, but Dennis remains one of its most beloved figures.

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint, expressed her enthusiasm for the project: "There's something wonderfully fitting about this legendary mischief-maker finally making his mark on a collectible 50p, and I'm sure Dennis himself would see it as his greatest prank yet. This coin captures everything we love about him—that unmistakable mischievous grin, his furry pal Gnasher by his side, and that irresistible spirit of rebellion that has made him a favourite across generations."

Official Recognition of Mischief

Mike Stirling, Director of Mischief at Beano, and Rob Glenny, Executive Director of Growth and New Product Development at Beano Studios, both highlighted the significance of this official minting. Glenny remarked: "Dennis has always had a knack for turning up where you least expect him, and we're very excited that he has now landed on a 50p coin. With Gnasher by his side, this coin captures the unmistakable spark that has kept Dennis at the heart of childhood for generations. To see that mischief officially minted is a brilliant way to mark 75 years of laughs, pranks, and unleashed imagination."
