Baywatch Star David Charvet Cleared After Fatal Dog Accident
David Charvet Won't Face Charges in Dog Death

David Charvet will not face charges after he fatally hit a neighbor's dog with his truck during an incident that occurred on April 16. The 53-year-old former Baywatch star, who was seen just hours after the collision, was previously cleared of any wrongdoing following the incident last week.

Representative Confirms No Charges

A representative for the actor told People in an article published on Friday that charges have not been filed against Charvet. His rep also told the outlet that Charvet has faced 'online harassment' since the accident and intends to bring awareness to animal safety. Along with the harassment, he has received 'death threats' and 'intends to correct the lies communicated on this incident and protect his reputation and safety.'

The star's rep added, 'David also hopes to create awareness around pet safety and the prevention of animal cruelty.'

Dispute Over Leash Laws

Charvet's rep additionally claimed that there is both photo and video footage proving the dog's owner had 'violated the law' by walking her dogs without a leash, which 'contradict the false statements that were provided to the police and shared publicly.' In addition, hours after the accident caused by the dog being off a leash, there is video confirming that the dog's owner was walking on the street with two of her other dogs, both off leashes.

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Department could not verify or comment on whether there was 'photographic and video evidence.' However, the sheriff's department told People that the 'final determination' is that the incident was an accident and no crime had occurred. The Daily Mail has reached out to the Sheriff's Department and Charvet for comment.

Charvet's Statement

Charvet's rep previously said that he 'is an animal lover and responsible dog owner who would never intentionally harm an animal' in a statement to People at the time of the collision last week on Thursday. The spokesperson added that Charvet's thoughts 'are with the family who lost their dog.'

The entertainer was 'driving through his neighborhood in low-light conditions' at around 5:30 a.m. when he 'encountered a neighbor walking three dogs off leash in the middle of the street,' the statement read. It conflicted with the previous statement from the dog owner, who insisted the dogs were on leashes.

The representative claimed that Charvet 'slowed his vehicle and moved to the side to pass safely. As he did so, one of the dogs moved under the vehicle.' He then 'immediately stopped, called 911, and remained at the scene until authorities arrived. He fully cooperated with the investigation and made himself available for any further help.'

Sheriff's Department Confirms Accident

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Department said in a statement: 'It sounds like it was accidental and that the dogs were off leash and ran into the roadway' adding that '[Charvet] tried to swerve to avoid hitting them.' Charvet has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing, law enforcement sources previously told TMZ.

Charvet's female neighbor, Vera Errico, accused him of fatally striking her dog with his truck before taking off. She claimed Charvet struck her 11-year-old dog early Thursday morning as she walked him on a leash through a gated Malibu community, according to TMZ. The dog was rushed to the vet where he was sadly euthanized.

Errico claimed she was walking Sunday, her English Labrador, along with two other dogs on leashes just before 6 a.m. when Charvet drove by in his pick-up truck. She claimed that he allegedly struck Sunday and drove out of the community without stopping. While Errico believes Charvet only called police after driving out of the community, a law enforcement source has since told the site they do not perceive the incident to be a hit-and-run as authorities were contacted by Charvet, regardless of whether or not he remained on the scene.
