A 25-year-old people smuggler who boasted about his business transporting individuals from the UK to France in the back of lorries has been jailed. Jaskirat Singh received a sentence of five years and three months at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday for conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration to a member state. The offences involved arranging travel for Indian nationals to the continent between December 2024 and March 2026.
Evidence from phones
Evidence seized from Singh's phones revealed messages organising transport, videos of large quantities of £20 notes spread on a bed, and a TikTok account that appeared to advertise cross-Channel journeys. In a voice note, Singh claimed he had been operating the scheme for four years, sending 60 people per week to France over nine months. This was believed to be an attempt to persuade someone to become involved in the logistics of the highly organised conspiracy.
Court outcome
The court heard details of the sophisticated operation, which exploited vulnerable migrants seeking entry into the UK. Singh's bragging in the voice note ultimately contributed to his downfall, as it provided key evidence for the prosecution. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat people smuggling and illegal immigration across the Channel.
