Moscow Region Burns After Huge Drone Attack

Waves of drones battered Russia overnight in what has been described as a 'terrible night' for the country, with fires erupting at an oil depot and warehouses in the Moscow and Tambov regions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed responsibility, stating that Ukraine hit facilities more than 500 and nearly 700 kilometers from the front line.

Oil Depot Struck in Noginsk

Fire broke out at an oil depot in Noginsk after it was hit by falling drone debris, according to Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region. Two people were injured in the incident, and a nearby maternity hospital was evacuated. Vorobyov did not disclose the extent of the damage at the oil depot.

Warehouses Hit in Elektrostal and Kotovsk

In the Moscow region, drones struck a warehouse owned by Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, in Elektrostal, a city east of Moscow. The governor reported that 24 people were injured in that attack. Another Wildberries warehouse was hit in Kotovsk, in the Tambov region, nearly 300 miles southeast of Moscow. That attack resulted in 25 people injured and seven fatalities, according to the local governor.

Zelensky Claims Responsibility

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X: 'Today, our long-range sanctions worked across three areas on Russian territory, as well as on our temporarily occupied land and at sea. In particular, in response to Russian strikes on our civilian infrastructure and on our cities and communities, two major logistics facilities were hit – in the Moscow and Tambov regions, more than 500 and nearly 700 kilometers from the front line.' He added that an oil facility was also struck, and that Ukrainian mid-range strikes engaged targets in the Sea of Azov, the Black Sea, and temporarily occupied Crimea.
