A man in Indiana, USA, has been accused of a brutal attack on a woman that left hospital staff reportedly shocked. Justin Plummer, 44, from Fayette County, is being held on a $450,000 bond (approximately £353,000) after police responded to a hospital where the victim was being treated.
Details of the Attack
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office stated that Plummer was arrested on June 15, following a report three days earlier when the unnamed woman arrived at the hospital with injuries. According to court documents obtained by WXIN, the woman told hospital staff that she and Plummer had been arguing before he allegedly threw her to the ground, sat on her chest, and strangled her.
She further claimed that Plummer forced a rag into her mouth and poured water over it, causing her to lose consciousness multiple times. He is also accused of repeatedly striking her head with a metal water bottle. Hospital staff reported that one cut was so deep it exposed her skull. Additionally, health workers said Plummer later attempted to seal the wound with superglue, as reported by True Crime News.
Cover-Up Attempt and Escape
The victim said Plummer forced her to record statements on his phone to cover up the alleged attack before he passed out after drinking vodka and cranberry juice. She was able to escape once he was unconscious. The outlet reports that Plummer allegedly has a history of physically assaulting her, but the June 12 incident was the most severe. Two days later, she reported an alleged rape during the same attack, stating that he gave her a towel and told her to clean up and make him food.
She recounted that Plummer told her, “I would love to blow your head off. It would make me happy.” Deputies were also informed that Plummer shoved a “rag-like object” into her mouth, laid it over her face, and poured water on it, leaving her struggling to breathe. She drifted in and out of consciousness during the ordeal, according to Fox 59.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Plummer has been charged with two counts of rape while in possession of a deadly weapon, as well as one count each of criminal confinement, strangulation, intimidation, and interference with reporting a crime. The sheriff's office confirmed he remains in jail on $450,000 bond. WXIN reports that he has pleaded not guilty, and a jury trial is scheduled for October 19. Law & Crime states that his next court date is July 29.
