Paedophile Killer Jamie Varley on 24-Hour Suicide Watch After Life Sentence
Jamie Varley on 24-Hour Suicide Watch After Life Sentence

Jamie Varley, the paedophile killer sentenced to a whole life order for the murder of baby Preston Davey, will be monitored around the clock due to fears he may attempt suicide. Despite overwhelming evidence, Varley continues to maintain his innocence.

Sentencing and Mitigation

During sentencing at the High Court, Mr Justice Turner handed Varley, 37, a whole life order for the murder and sexual abuse of 13-month-old Preston. Varley's partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, received a 25-year sentence for sexual assault and allowing the death of a child. In mitigation, Varley's representatives described him as a "great teacher" before the abuse, but acknowledged a "sexual motive" in the horrific acts.

Prison Staff Reaction

Insiders reveal that prison staff are "sickened" by the evidence and reluctant to care for Varley. One source said, "Prison guards often have to look out for prisoners who have done awful things... But this one has really turned the stomachs of many. It is human nature not to want to protect those who have hurt children, but that is exactly what they are going to have to do."

Suicide Watch and Security Measures

Varley has reportedly expressed a desire to "not be here anymore" in the lead-up to the case. An insider commented, "Who knows if it is a plea for help, or another sneaky way of being kept safe... Either way, it has to be taken seriously, and he is essentially on a 24-hour watch to make sure he does no harm to himself."

Varley is expected to be transferred to HMP Wakefield, known as "Monster Mansion," a category A prison housing Britain's most dangerous criminals. There, he will initially be kept in solitary confinement due to a "price on his head." A source explained, "They will want him dead, there will be a long line of people wanting to get to him for what he has done to the poor baby." He will likely have a dedicated case manager to monitor his mental health, but listener schemes involving fellow prisoners are not an option as they pose a threat.

Additional Charges and Evidence

The court heard that Varley faced additional charges of extreme pornography, but these were not pursued due to lack of public interest. Handsets containing images shown to the jury will be destroyed. The trial revealed Varley had "hundreds if not thousands" of images and videos, including naked images of Preston and other disturbing evidence.
