Ghana Fan Dies After World Cup Win Over Panama

A young Ghanaian fan tragically died after celebrating her team's victory over Panama in the World Cup opener. Sara Araba Tettey, a 26-year-old lawyer, suffered a cardiac arrest following the match, which Ghana won 1-0 thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Caleb Yirenkyi.

The Incident

Tettey was watching the game with friends at a hostel in Bomso, about 90 miles northwest of Accra. She collapsed during post-match celebrations and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors attempted resuscitation for 45 minutes but pronounced her dead shortly after.

Legal Community in Shock

Tettey, called to the bar in October last year, worked for O&A Legal Consult in the Ashanti region. Her death has sent shockwaves through Ghana's legal fraternity, where she was seen as a promising barrister.

Similar Tragedy Strikes Scotland Fan

Days earlier, 76-year-old Scotland fan Donny Strathie died in Boston before seeing his team play at the World Cup. He had traveled to the US to watch Scotland face Morocco but passed away suddenly over the weekend.

A tribute in the form of a minute's applause during the 76th minute of Scotland's match has been organized. Scotland head coach Steve Clarke expressed condolences, saying, "It's sad for his family, his daughters, and his grandchildren."
