A British holidaymaker has tragically died following a horrific accident at a Spanish beach. The 25-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest after being dashed against rocks in the water. The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 PM local time at the secluded Percheles Beach on the Costa Calida in Mazarron, located in the southeastern Spanish region of Murcia.
Rescue efforts fail to save victim
Two companions, who are reportedly British, raised the alarm after witnessing their friend strike the rocks and lose consciousness. Bystanders managed to pull the man from the water before emergency services arrived. Despite immediate CPR efforts guided by a nurse and continued by police and Civil Guard officers equipped with resuscitation gear, the man could not be revived. A physician pronounced him dead at the scene.
Emergency response details
A spokesman for the regional emergency coordination center stated: 'We received several 999 calls around 4:05 PM reporting difficulties in getting a swimmer out of the water at Percheles Beach. The callers, two young English men, reported that their companion had struck the rocks and was unconscious.' Authorities dispatched the Civil Guard, Mazarron Local Police, Civil Protection, firefighters, and an ambulance. The victim's body was screened off and later removed for an autopsy, which is expected to be conducted today.
Community reaction
Local residents have expressed their condolences online. One comment read: 'If there's no lifeguard, there's no time for anything. Rest in peace. What a shame. Such a young man.' The beach is accessible via an unpaved road, and the nearest town is Canada de Gallego. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the nationality of the deceased, but the companions are identified as British.
