Bodycam Shows Tasering of Afghan Refugee After Fatal Stabbing

Bodycam footage released by the Metropolitan Police shows the moment Dawood Safi, 28, an Afghan refugee and Uber driver, was tasered and arrested after stabbing dog walker Wayne Broadhurst to death in a random attack in Uxbridge.

Attack Details

On October 27 last year, Safi fatally stabbed 49-year-old Broadhurst 14 times in the head, neck, chest, and back at Broadhurst's home in Midhurst Gardens. One witness described the attack as a “butchering” and said Safi looked “like he was possessed.”

Safi pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was later found guilty of attempting to murder his landlord. The court heard he was gripped by psychosis during the incident.

Bodycam Footage

In the newly-released footage, police officers stop their vehicle and rush toward Safi, who is still holding the knife. Officers shout “drop the knife” and “get on the floor,” but Safi ignores them and backs away. After repeated commands, an officer tasers Safi, causing him to fall to the ground. Officers then roll him onto his front, search him, and place him in handcuffs.

A second clip from a nearby security camera shows the same scene from a different perspective.

Impact

The release of the footage comes after Safi's conviction for manslaughter and attempted murder. The attack has raised concerns about random violence and mental health issues among refugees.
