Kiran Kaur, the mother of Vickrum Digwa who murdered Henry Nowak, has been sentenced to three years in prison for removing the murder weapon from the crime scene and assisting an offender. The 53-year-old, of St Denys Road, Southampton, was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Friday after a jury found her guilty.
Details of the Offence
On the night of December 3 2025, Kaur took the knife her son used to kill 18-year-old finance student Henry Nowak back to the family home. The weapon was later found among a collection of ceremonial and other weapons in Digwa's bedroom. Kaur was convicted of assisting an offender, while Digwa, 23, was found guilty of murder and carrying a knife in public after a trial in May.
Sentencing Remarks
Passing sentence, Judge William Mousley KC said: "A responsible parent would have challenged their son over their actions and encourage them to do the right thing. Instead you took the knife home and put it with a larger collection of ceremonial and other weapons in your son's bedroom. That would have helped to conceal what it had been used for."
Background of the Murder
Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder of Nowak, after falsely claiming the victim had racially abused him. The court heard that Digwa stabbed Nowak in Southampton, and Kaur's actions hindered the investigation by removing crucial evidence.
