ISIS has issued a chilling threat targeting the World Cup 2026 as football fans from across the globe travel to North America, with security forces in the US, Mexico and Canada on high alert.
ISIS Calls for Stadium Attacks
ISIS has issued a chilling threat to football fans, encouraging its followers to ignite stadiums and incite a stampede as people worldwide journey to North America for the World Cup. Adherents of the group were delivered a horrifying message: "O mujahid, have a full month to monitor gatherings and launch attacks, for the unbridled hordes of infidels throng the streets and stands teem with them."
The Sun reports that followers of the terror group were then prompted to envisage the pandemonium an attack could provoke within a crowded stadium. "Imagine that you have succeeded in starting a fire in the stands to cause a massive stampede that will kill hundreds of people from the nation of the Trinity and atheism? It is an idea worth implementing."
ISIS Condemns World Cup as Sinful
ISIS called for the destruction of civilisation due to the sins it alleges the World Cup is endorsing, including "beastiality and depravity." The group proceeded to label the players from each team as descendants of "Crusaders" bent on annihilating Islam. It compared them to livestock and asserted sport has "led them astray." The Daily Express reports that the terror group even demanded the death of the players.
"The victory lies with those who seize this opportunity, within the well-known legal parameters of Islamic jurisprudence, to admiring and becoming attached to the 'player,' and engaging in jihad by intensifying campaigns to cripple America and wound the hearts of its citizens," the message continued. "This is an open invitation to all mujahideen, those who are determined, those who hope for chivalry, archery, and combat, who rejoice in his way and are named after him. This is your way, so don't let the opportunity pass you by. Train them to follow their example, for idleness and joy are not among them."
Security Measures Intensified
The tournament, jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada and the US, is set to be the most viewed World Cup ever. Major security worries have enveloped host cities across the three countries, with authorities ramping up defences against drone threats and generally enhancing security measures throughout their wider urban areas. In Guadalajara, Mexico, heavily armed police officers and National Guard personnel have been mobilised to patrol the streets. In the US, a multitude of federal agencies, state and local police forces and private organisations are working to ensure cities remain safe.
Some are tasked with securing stadiums and fan zones, while others are responsible for escorting teams and protecting dignitaries travelling with them. Certain security teams are equipped with hunter drones capable of launching nets over objects in restricted airspace. They also have bag-scanning robot dogs, massive X-ray lorries and thousands of AI-powered cameras surveilling public spaces where fans are expected to gather.
