Emergency services in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, launched a major response early Wednesday after a man and a woman sleeping rough were allegedly targeted in an acid attack. The victims sustained facial injuries after an irritant was thrown at them on Ramshill Road around 2:30 AM on July 15.
Victims Hospitalized, Roads Closed
Police, ambulance crews, and firefighters attended the scene, with a HAZMAT response team also deployed. Ramshill Road and Northway were cordoned off as emergency services worked. The two victims were taken to hospital for treatment; their injuries are not believed to be serious.
Arrest Made, Investigation Ongoing
North Yorkshire Police confirmed that a woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody. Officers are working to identify any other suspects believed to be involved.
A police spokesperson said: "Police in Scarborough are investigating after a man and a woman who were sleeping rough in the Ramshill Road area, had what is believed to be an irritant thrown at them. It happened at around 2:30am in the early hours of Wednesday 15 July. The victims were taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries that are not believed to be serious."
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The spokesperson added: "One woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody at this time. An extensive investigation is ongoing to trace any other suspects believed to be involved. All three emergency services were involved in the incident which led to two areas of the town, Ramshill Road and Northway, being cordoned off and road closures put in place."
